Silence of a Saturday Morning Listening to my own breathing, Is that a thing ? Far off, birds are twittering to each other, celebrating the day, or telling Each other that the bird feeder is full again A seed driller groans across the far off field, leaving a background hum That interrupts the tinnitus in my brain The fridge continues its humming And everything else Is Quiet Almost hearing the autumn closing off the trees and plants to the cold, Protecting delicate leaves, refraining to waste energy
